I haven’t seen it yet – that total proof that Saddam Hussein not only possesses WoMD, but that he fully intends to use them against his neighbors.
Sure he’s a crankpot, believes he’s the reincarnation of Nebuchadnezzar. Doesn’t mean he’s going to nuke Israel. He must know that if he does, he’s toast.
If we look just at American National Security, I’m not seeing it involved here. If I did have proof that Saddam was developing bio weapons that he intends to deploy here, I’m sorry, but I’d fucking cheer at the photos in that journal. I’d cheer if all of Iraq was turned into glass. Is that jingoistic and nationalistic of me? Why, yes. And so what? I’m all for self-defense, and some numb-brained, religion-addicted, addlepated moron tries to harm my family, I’m going to be happy to see his brains blown out.
As for oil, I do have to agree with the people who say they’d like to see the U.S. survive without it. Seriously – if people thought for a second, outside of pipedreams, about how RELIANT we are on the stuff, it’d scare the hell out of them. But killing people for it isn’t the answer. Personally, I’m all for opening up ANWR and drilling off the CA coast if it means we’re less dependent on a bunch of fruitcakes for our livelihood. I guess that makes me jingoistic, nationalistic, AND environmentally incorrect. And rational.
Anyhow, the journal was interesting, thanks for posting it. It doesn’t change my mind one way or the other about this war though – I’m still firmly in the “show me” category, and unless I’m shown, I’m out.

      I hear ya! Can’t disagree, either. :)
Pro gulf action or con gulf action, what the US GUM need to know is that war is not a video game. People die – enemy and friend – in horrible ways. If it has to happen, fine – but don’t candy-coat it.
<obvious>I just don’t think that we know all the facts and motives involved here.</obvious> At best, we’re being misled.

        Absolutely agreed..
I think something stinks, rather like limburger, or maybe raclette with a touch of gorgonzola. Or maybe edam with some blue cheese. (I’m hungry!!).
They’re not telling us something. I’m inclined to believe that it’s about money – it’s usually about money. If we go to war, we’ll win. Who stands to make a LOT of money if they win?
It’s the same as Bosnia and that whole mess. Not for one SECOND did I believe we went in there for humanitarian reasons. I’m still wondering who got loads of cash for that one.
If it’s not cash, what back-room deals are being made? If Europe and the U.S. control that region, with a foothold in Iraq AND an ally in Israel – no more worries about oil, right? So maybe Germany is putting a hold on it until a they get a bigger piece of the pie?
Who knows, but I’m not inclined to attribute altruism to politicians. I want to know.. basically, in a nutshell.. WTF????
        ahh…breakfast! :D
P.S. – I understand why you posted those photos. A lot people think of video games and lack of horrible, messy deaths. War is messy, and yucky, and frightening. And ichy. And normally run by the aforemention non-altruistic, money loving politicians. Thank you for posting them!!
