“I have examined all the known superstitions of the word, and I do not find in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology. Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this coercion? To make one half of the world fools and the other half hypocrites; to support roguery and error all over the earth.” – Thomas Jefferson
In other news: MS Windows update broke my 2K laptop. So, I'm attempting an XP install. Blech. Plus, as soon as I manage to get my desktop backed up (Bwahahahahahahahahaha)
Dual boots are a terrible pain. May I recommend win4lin instead? The stability is a lot better than it used to be, and it removes the annoyance factor or rebooting to swap between platforms.
I have just decided that Thomas Jefferson was a wise man.
Win4lin? Hmm. I’ll look into it, because I’m really leery of a dual boot system. I tried it before with 98 and 2K and wasn’t really happy with it.
So far the XP thing is ok, though it refuses to acknowledge the nic. :-/ This could be bad.
Mr. Jefferson is my hero, bar none. You like that Tommy quote? How about these two:
“Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms [of government] those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.” – Thomas Jefferson
“I cannot live without books.” – Thomas Jefferson
Yup. My kinda guy.
OK, bed for me. It’s almost midnight-thirty here now!!
Have a good one!! :)
I like those very much. I think he’s my kind of guy as well.
The beauty of win4lin is that it’s a windows shell made for linux. So you have a linux platform and a windows emulator, rather than a windows platform and an x-window shell. Almost completely open-source that way.
There are also some other good windows emulators out there now, but I have no experience with those because I currently require an XP platform and xwindows to connect to the unix server.
Good night, and sleep well!
I can probably get Agent to run under WINE, and probably her graphic apps too. There’s also converting her to GIMP :D.
My main concern is the games, which tend to be flaky, especially running installs from the CDs. Damn copy protection that prevents legitimate use.
GIMP is great. I used to use it all the time.
I’m a little out of touch as I said, because I’m working on XP and Solaris at the moment, but my primary desktop at my Ph.D. university was running on Red Hat with an early version of win4lin. It would happily run any windows app, including Office, Powerpoint and Corel.
I can’t help with games, because they’re something I am totally ignorant about.
