Contrariness…

I'm cleaning up my hard drive in preparation to backing it up, in preparation to rebuilding the damn thing. I came across a file that I almost deleted. This file explains things that can be done with items your average farmer uses frequently.

I saved this particular file because, while I have no need of the information in it, there are those in power who would label me with the “T” word, perhaps even jail me for merely possessing it. The fact that I'm even a little concerned about that tells me that the concept of thoughtcrime is insidiously creeping into our national psyche. How long before it's embedded? How long before this act of typing into the ether is criminalized?

When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, “This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,” the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything–you can't conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him. – Robert A. Heinlein

  1. Heh. C’mon, I’ll take you on a chemistry lesson, courtesy of our good sheep at Home Depot, Lowe’s or any other hardware store.
Seriously. People need to wake up and realize how…not difficiult it is to..do things. I’m not trying to be labeled with the T word either here, but since I’m a chemistry buff…well, yeah.
Did you know that while we were hunting in Iraq for WMDs, we found some on our /own/ soil? In Tyler, Texas, two white supremacists were caught with a metric pantsloads worth of weapons, ammo and some plans, IIRC. THe funny thing is, this event barely hit the newswires.
Heh. America, land of the free, home of the brave…though I fear how long that will last. :/

    1. Oh yah – they found cyanide bombs too I think. Rob’s folks live in Mineola, a stone’s throw away from there.
      Sheesh.

That ol’ slippery slope keeps getting steeper. Bah.
