Heee! I got a new thingy today! For a while now, I've toyed with the idea of getting a fish tank. I kinda sorta wanted a 10 gallon, but I'm not really sure where I'd put it. I didn't want just a goldfish bowl, I don't really think a small bowl is fair to the fish. I wound up getting a 2 gallon tank, which will have a single male betta fish that I'll get next week. I'd like to toss in some neon tetras too, but I don't think they'd be happy in an unheated tank, plus it's probably too small.
So we'll see how this little tank goes. If I really like it, and decide it's worth the hassle, I'll start saving up for a 20-30 gallon tank.
The other thing I wasn't sure of is how the felines will react. Let's just say I'm not spending that kind of money to keep live snacks around for the brats. ;)

Purty!
I’ve been toying with the idea of doing something similar for a while, because the goldfish in the kookaburra feeding trough backyard pond aren’t interactive enough.
I’d like to hear how it goes.
Get a heater for it if you can. Bettas do best at the high end of the tropical temp range (high 70s). There are lots of small heaters that are appropriate for mini tanks.
I wouldn’t recommend adding any other fish. Bettas go shy when they’re surrounded by fast-moving fish, and 2 gallons is too small for more than one fish.
Enjoy the betta. I’m a former betta breeder, so feel free to ping me if you have any questions.
Love it!
Your aquarium is beautiful! Great colors and everything! I have been toying with the idea of fish, but I am not sure. What I really want is to move out of the apartment into a house, then I can have as many animals as I want….actually, I would like two cats, a dog, and some fish. That would keep me company. :-)
Re: Love it!
Don’t get a place with a HOA. They’ll limit what you can have. Ours says no more than 4 cats/dogs.
Re: Love it!
I have never heard anything good about HOAs. Some of my friends like them because they are supposed to help keep the property values high, but it just seems like a bunch of people who want to dictate what should be done in the neighborhood.
Maybe I am wrong – I do not know. There are pro/con arguments on HOAs.
Re: Love it!
Let’s put it this way. When and I get a new house, and ironclad, unbreakable requirement is no HOA.
