OK.

Mozilla – web browser. No change, been using that for a while now.
KLuJe – livejournal client. So far, so good. Although it makes me do links and stuff by myself waaaaah! Hope it will pick up music from whatever I'm supposed to use.
Kmail – email. Um. I actually think I like it. Dammit, and I just bought Agent.
Pan – usenet. Um. I might like it. Dammit, and I just bought Agent. However, Agent's filtering leaves a lot to be desired without NewsProxy, which is why I'm giving Pan a try. Oh, btw – Agent was running under Wine. Only slightly flaky.
Gaim – multiple IM client. No problem there.

Yet to figure out: music (mp3 & oggs) – is that XMMS? Haven't looked at whatever office thing is on here yet – KOffice? I wonder if there's something like UltraEdit around. Oh, and need a linux version of Password Safe. Had to jump into the XP side to get a few passwords! Ohyah – gFTP is nifty.

Managed to change my background, and set my screensaver. Whee!

Bad things: I have a super fancy five button mouse that doesn't work right anymore. I need my “back” and “forward” buttons! Waaaaah!
Also, Mozilla is kinda funky – I get half lines on the screen, which get fixed by selecting all the text. Must be a font thing or something.
Needless to say, my fancy keyboard buttons don't work. That just makes me sad, but it's not a major gripe.

  1. If you’re looking for /just a browser/, I suggest Mozilla Firebird. Music? XMMS. Office stuff? OpenOffice.org . KOffice is also good too, but I prefer OO.o more :)
TextEditors are plenty. I like Kate for a graphical text editor, but I’m of the vim persuasion when I feel like being on the command line.
gFTP is nice. I use ncftp (again, I’m very command line oriented, I use graphical stuff more for web work)
If you’re usuing passwords mainly online, Mozilla Firebird and Mozilla (big suite) has built in password manager for your sites. i need to look at how it’s implemented though – i’m so used to it that I expect it to Just Do It ™.
Lemme know if you have any more musings. ;)
