Birthday goodies

gave me my birthday presents early today because he's not feeling well at all. Seeing as how he's running a fever of 101, I'm not surprised. :(

I scored:

  • Jennifer Government by Max Barry – The backcover blurb says it's “a wickedly satirical and outrageous thriller about globalization and marketing hype” – sounds like a good dystopia to feed my paranoid conspiracy tendancies.
  • Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood – Author of “The Handmaid's Tale”, this is another dystopia; from the blurb: “[A]…world in which science-based corporations have recently taken mankind on an uncontrolled genetic-engineering ride..”
  • New Spring by Robert Jordan – I am so hooked on Wheel of Time. This one is a prequel – I can only hope that he does have plans to end the story, sometime in the next decade.
  • Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (30th Anniversary Edition) – Just a wonderful movie; Gene Wilder is fantastic.

    Mmmm… books.

    1. I read Jennifer Government and I liked it. I think I first heard about it at wilwheaton.net
Actually, the other day I was thinking of rereading. It’s interesting, crazy, and funny. It’s not the best book but it’s ok.
I would recommend a Christopher Buckley book like “Thank You for Smoking” or “Little Green Men.” Those are both great satires.
