OK, so I read a lot. How much do I read? Hellifiknow. So, when I noticed the
Then today, I also found
Anyhow, here's my progress so far, documented in memories.
Book 1 – The Return of the King — J.R.R. Tolkien (01/16/2004)
Wow. For someone who usually reads quite rapidly it sure took a long time for me to finish this book. I'm fairly sure it's the first book I've finished this year – I've got about six or so started, but haven't been reading as often as usual for me.
This is the second attempt at reading ROTK. Last time I only got through the destruction of the ring. I'm a big sci-fi and fantasy reader, but I find Tolkien difficult to read. It was worth the effort, however. Definitely a classic worth reading.
Book 2 – Grumbles From The Grave – Robert A. Heinlein (01/20/2004)
This book is a collection of letters written by Heinlein to various people. From the jacket: “Here are his lettes, from his first one to an editor in 1939, through the long years of writing for the pulp magazine markets, through his ongoing conquest of the prestigious slick magazines, and for major book publishers. … These letters furnish an insight into Heinlein the man, and Heinlein the generally acclaimed leading writer of speculative fiction. They also reveal why some things got put into, and many things got left out of, the final form of his works”
Probably pretty boring if you're not a Heinlein fan, but I enjoyed it immensely.
Book 3 – Kate Remembered – A. Scott Berg (01/25/2004)
One of my all time favorite actresses is Katharine Hepburn. She was an incredibly strong woman and lived an incredible life. This was altogether a fascinating read, and one I highly recommend.
Book 4 – The Eye of the World (The Wheel of Time, Book 1) – Robert Jordan (01/31/2004)
This one is a re-read. In fact, I've read it several times before. It's a vast, vast epic fantasy of good versus evil and fate and free will. It also goes on and on and on and on and on….. but I can't help liking it.
Some say Jordan's Wheel of Time is the same as Goodkind's Sword of Truth – or is that the other way 'round? Either way, I have to admit it's true. Both series are excruciatingly long, both are good v. evil, Rand/Richard, Black Ajah/Sisters of the Dark, Maidens of the Spear/Mord-Sith, etc, etc.
Fine I say – bring 'em on, they're both a good, page turning, escapist read. On the whole, I think the Wheel of Time series is holding up better than Sword of Truth – that last Goodkind made a hard turn into straight objectivism. Not that that's necessarily bad, mind you – it was a tad jarring though.
So. Anyway. Wheel of Time – good stuff. :)
Book 5 – New Spring (A Wheel of Time Prequel Novel) – Robert Jordan (02/01/2004)
Finished this book up in one day – a quick read, especially for a Wheel of Time novel.
Good stuff – follows Lan and Moiraine in two plot lines that weave together nicely. As a prequel to the 10 (so far) book series, New Spring tells the story of how as an Accepted, Moiraine became involved with the search for the Dragon Reborn.

I'm 13 pages in, and it's a riot! Very interesting premise so far.
You are ahead of me!
I have only read 4 this year and they were childrens books. *grins* I want to get through all the Lemony Snicket books. They are so fun! :)
I have always wondered about the Wheel of Time books. Robert Jordon sells so well for us. :)
