Note: This is not directed at anyone in particular; it is simply my observation of the whole “serial adding” controversy.
Serial adders are such a non-issue. First off, anything you post on the internet ™ is pretty much public. You post, you're asking for a response of some kind. Grow a thick skin, for cryin' out loud.
Secondly, you have the option of locking any posts you want to. Get a clue – if you lock a post, some one who has added you to their “friends list” who you have not added back to yours cannot read your freakin' posts. What is so difficult about that concept to understand?
“Oh, but every time I go to my user page I see these awful names….” Oh, grow the fuck up. They can't see anything you don't allow them to see, so untwist your damn knickers.
A serial adder added me to their list. His/her/it's journal is stupid, so I ignored it. Another serial adder who has not added me but who caused/causes a huge uproar (
From my observation, it's only females who get all up in arms about serial adding – is that true? Whatever.
As long as I'm being bitchy, I might as well register my irritation at the “add me I'll add you back, k?” mentality. Logically, if everyone said that, no one would ever be added!! “Add me and I'll add you back!” “No – you add me and I'll add you back!” Glah. I hated junior high when I was there.
Anyway, LJ is deciding what, if anything, to do about friend's lists. Here's the link – http://www.livejournal.com/users/news/76866.html
Heh. That thread in has been my idle-moment entertainment all afternoon. Sometimes watching people froth at the mouth is damned fun.
Yes!!! That’s it exactly! LOL
“b-b-but it’s not faaaair that just *anyone* can read my public entries! waaahhhh!”
*stomping* You have to be my *friend*, damnit!
*Funkytown – classic song!*
I add people either because:
1. They are friends IRL.
2. I find them and their journals interesting.
Now, if people add me, then I think that they do it for the same reasons. I think you are right about growing up – if someone chooses a rather questionable name, then users need to tough it out if that person adds them to their friends list. Why is it so difficult for people to ignore such stuff? I mean, it is not like I am going to be viewing their LJ unless I make a point to see it.
Bitchy, bitchy…. :-)
