Lower-carb Coke on the way

Coca-Cola Co. said Monday it will launch a soft-drink with half the carbohydrates of traditional colas this summer as the world’s largest soft-drink firm looks to capitalize on the low-carb diet craze.

    1. Indeed. At least, it would be funny, if we weren’t going to be expected to pay for this folly.
My initial reaction to the news about the coke was “What’s the point?”. If you’re going to put a chemical soup into your body, why on earth would you worry about how many carbs it has??!?

      1. Fatkins nuts (the ones who didn’t bother to finish the book, that is) seem to be of the belief that they can consume all the crap they want, just so long as they watch the carb count. I have the sneaking suspicion that the Fatkins cola will be a success. For at least as long as the low-carb trend hangs on.

        1. Yup, you’re right on all points. :)
I am so sick of hearing about low carb this, low carb that. I’m sorry, but you can have my carbs when you pry them from my cold, dead hands.
I may obsess slightly over WW points, but at least they take calories and fat into account. And there’s nothing verboten.

          1. Everything I’ve ever heard about WW pegs it as a sensible weight-loss plan based on moderation, peer support, and most of all, patience. (And if you’re obsessing about points, it’s surely not showing up in your journal.)
Everything I’ve ever heard about Fatkins pins it as dangerous in the instant-gratification low-carb phase, and extraordinarily sensible in the maintenance phase (that is, if you don’t destroy your body before you get there). Of course, most low-carb adherents seem to have forgotten to finish the book and opt to pig out on giant slabs of fat-laden meat instead.
