All right. Let’s see if the automagical LJ xposter works for me this go ’round. If not, I can always use the old kludge method.

If this works, then I’ve got to figure out how to (and if I’m going to) get my archive back. Whee.

Did I mention I hate computers?

(Nope, didn’t work. Kludge it is.)

  1. Did you back up your database beforehand? Is your old database still available? If so, you can import the old database into the new one to get your old entries. Don’t ask me how, I heard that’s how it’s done.
Plus, if you upgraded to WP2.1… yeah. The LJ cross-posting plugin doesn’t work yet (AFAIK) with the new version of WP. That’s the main reason I haven’t upgraded my version of WP yet.

    • I did back it up, using the WP back up plugin, and dumping it right from mysql. But, I was having connection problems, and I don’t know if it may have been a corrupted database, so do I want to import? I dunno.
I seem to be running 2.0.5 – I think there’s another reason (server permissions, or some such I would imagine) that’s keeping it from working for me.
Tell me – how do you post to your wordpress? Do you use the built in page? ‘Cause it drives me absolutely insane. :(

      • yeah, I use the built-in page (ie: wp-admin) to post. I usually back it up in a text file just in case, but it’s not a big deal for me. I’ve dabbled with a program called BlogThing, but for some reason I’m partial to just using the web interface.
what aspect of the post page is driving you insane?

        • The wysiwyg really isn’t… and if I go to the html pop up, it won’t keep the code properly, it wants to mess with it. Badly.
I had posted an embedded youtube thing, using the api thingy. I had to edit it for some reason, and the web interface would not keep the youtube code – it would keep disappearing.
That’s the main thing – I can post fine, but if I have to/want to edit, there’s no telling what it will do.
I’ll take a look at BlogThing! Right now, I’m using Journler – it’s an offline content management/journal thing, but it posts relatively easily to WordPress and LJ.
Currently, I’m fighting to make FAlbum work with my theme. I’m losing.

          • Do you really need the WYSIWYG editor? The first thing I did was turn that off (My Account > uncheck the “Use the visual rich editor when writing” option at the very bottom). If I need to see what it’ll look like before going live, I use the preview at the bottom. The non-visual editor still has the necessary buttons, just in case you need them to insert code.
I installed and messed around with FAlbum before — I gave it up since it was taking too much time trying to get it to work like I wanted and fit in my design. I might try again, since my site design changed since I last installed it, but I’m not sure.

          • Well, the main reason I wanted it was to have that cute random photo in the corner of the sidebar. That works swell. I figured as long as I have it, I might as well use more of it. It’s kicking my ass. I’ve got it looking ok now, though I can’t get the sidebars looking right with it, so I’ve dumped them. Eh, whatever.
I was having the same trouble w/ the Now Reading plugin and the full library page – but again, I mainly wanted it for the sidebar. The library page looked like crap though. :(
Gallery is what I wanted to use, but it was giving me fits too. Dammit, I didn’t really want to learn php. Bah. I’m still trying to avoid it.
You know, I don’t know if I ever tried to turn off the wysiwyg. Huh. So you can do straight html that way? Silly me.
Thanks for the tips and sounding board! :) I think your site looks really good.
