I think I voted today

I remember when I used to be excited and proud when I went to vote. Now I’m angry and mistrustful of the whole process.

Yet I must.

Vote!

Positives

So the whole “mfp” thing is going pretty well. I’ve been doing this for 137 days (19.5 weeks) now, and I’ve lost 38.6 pounds, or 1.97 lbs/week.

At first, I just took the mfp calorie goal and went with it. Now, I’ve been trying to up my protein to 40%, and I’m thinking about raising the calories a bit. Not totally positive about that, I think I want to make sure I’m consistantly getting some exercise, even if it is only cardio.

Here’s what’s happened in 38.6 pounds:

  • I can climb a flight of stairs without wheezing. Breathing deeply, sure, but not gasping.
  • The belt I had to buy was first cinched to the second hole, and is now on the 6th.
  • I started in size “6” (Lane Bryant’s stupid ass vanity sizing, most likely 26, pushing 28) (not that size 26 isn’t vanity sizing, ’cause my waist sure as hell wasn’t/isn’t 26 inches) (I like parenthesis) (where was I? Oh yeah) and now my size “5” (24) is a bit loose. I fit into 22s, but they’re still a bit snug.
  • I can put my foot on my knee to put on my shoes without dragging my foot up with my pants leg AND without huffing.
  • I’m buying tshirts from teefury.com in XL, not XXL, and they fit.
  • I’m keeping portions reasonable fairly comfortably, AND I’m actually liking some food that I didn’t like before, or didn’t think I would.

Things I’ve discovered:

  • I actually like the elliptical, and the treadmill.
  • My HRM watch gave me a star for last weeks training. I did not know it would do that. I’ll have to try to get TWO stars this week. :D

What I’m proud of today:

  • I did NOT want to go to the gym this morning, but I went anyway.
  • I did my full “routine” (such as it is), 10 minutes on the treadmill, 10 minutes elliptical, 20 minutes treadmill.
  • I liked it.

Goals:

  • I want to increase my time and difficulty on the treadmill and possibly the elliptical.
  • I want to start lifting, but I’m …. scared isn’t really the word, though afraid of humiliation might be. Also, my husband keeps nagging me about having to have a spotter, and I’m on my own at the gym. I don’t see anyone spotting, but he’s all freaked out about it. Maybe I should just start on the machines – it’s not like these muscles have been used in years, anyway. Probably shouldn’t scare them too badly.
  • Water. Water. (…everywhere, and all the boards did shrink. Water, water everywhere, nor any drop to drink)
  • Did I mention water?

Also, I <3 my Fitbit.

It’s not MY fault…

Jen: Oh lord.
Jen: that poor dog.
Jen: As an unrelated question, where are your clippers?
Rob: under the sink :-P
Jen: Protip: You should not have told me. :D
Rob: I want to see what you’ll do :D
Jen: I’m so posting this.

Well, that’s interesting

So I’ve been on this “diet” for about a month now. So far so good, I’ve lost about 11 pounds and have been feeling better. I really like the way that My Fitness Pal tracks stuff, and gives you a (reasonable) guideline. It’s the best site I’ve ever tried to use, and I think that I can actually stick with using it.

I’m doing Nutrisystem right now, but I don’t think I’ll be sticking with that. It’s been very helpful, in that everything is the perfect portion, and nutritionally balanced. But oof, it’s expensive. I’ve been on it for this month, and I’ll also do next month but then I’m going to rely on mfp and the rules that I know but never use. :D

Anyway, it’s working and I’m readjusting my idea of portion sizes (again). I feel that I will actually stick with it, which is unusual for me a month in.

THAT SAID…

So Tuesday was my birthday (YAY!) and we went out to dinner at a place we lovingly refer to as the House ‘O Meat – a brazilian steakhouse where waiters with skewers of meat wander around and fill your plate when you’re not looking. Let’s just say that the first chunk of meat was all that was necessary. :D

Anyway, I knew I was going to overindulge, planned on it even, and that was ok. It was wonderful, I was way too full and had way too much meat. The sides and rolls they have are delicious and the meat is perfection.

The next morning? I felt like I had a hangover, and I didn’t even have any booze. To me, that’s really interesting. I’ve been eating 1400ish calories for most of a month. Tuesday night’s extravagance was way more than that. I tossed 3K on dinner for mfp purposes, but I really have no idea and it might have been more. It’s interesting how cruddy I felt the next day. So, if I eat only the amount my body needs, I feel better? What a revelation!

Who knew?

Xmas blues

Ugh. So sick.

So Rob came down with the crud last week and was feeling pretty bad on Thursday. I guess today is my Thursday, because ugh. I hope so anyway, because I don’t want to feel worse. :-(   Judging by Rob, I’ve got another 4 days before I feel human. Hope the cough doesn’t get worse.

In other news, the Slanket I got for Giftmas is wonderful for “too sick to be up but not sick enough to be comatose.” Yay for warm and cuddly!

Which reminds me: FUCK the War on (some) Drugs! Useless assholes, I had to go to 4 pharmacies before I found one that carried the real Nyquil. On christmas eve! In the rain!

No wonder I’m sick.

No jury in the world….

I’m trying to prepare for my oral interview in Spanish tomorrow, fighting my own rampant avoidance behaviour when the following conversation occurs:

Rob: Want me to put headphones on while you’re studying?
Me: Yes, please, if you don’t mind.
Rob: No problemo.
Me: (absently) No probleMA.
Rob: So what you’re saying is that all problems are female?
Me: No, words that end in “ma”….. shut up.
Rob: (snickers)

Please stand by…

‘Blogs that are only twitter feeds suck. I want to get motivated to post again!

If this works, I’m posting this from my Galaxy Tab. I named her 0x9.

SOMEBODY needs to post here more often. My attention span has been ruined by twitter and facebook. :/

I’m not unaware that the above is short enough to be a twitter post. /irony

Some are more equal than others

GU Comics has a problem in WoW…

Early yesterday Taks received and email from Blizzard (not one of the bogus phishing ones) that her account had been suspended because of gold selling style activity on one of her characters. I rushed to change her character’s rank in Bloody Plunder so that she didn’t have open access to the guild bank. I then started working on her behalf to reclaim the account. Several hours later she was informed that her account, after investigation, had been banned. There went our carefully planned gaming night.

Long story short, I went to my community contact at Blizzard explained the situation and asked for help. They got everything taken care of this morning and we’ve added an authenticator to Taks’ account.

Y’know, hackers suck and all, and I’m glad the GU guy got it taken care of, but this really kinda pisses me off. If MY WoW account (that I don’t have because it would take over my life and I have homework to do) got hacked like this I’m betting the Blizzard response would be “So sad, too bad”.
