Terror of the Skies

I am a rabid Abney Park fan, but I’ve got to say I’m a little disappointed in Terror of the Skies, the new board game they just put out. The husband and I have been trying to make time to play more board games, and I was really excited about this one. We haven’t played it yet, but it does look like it will be fun and very playable. The problem I have with it is the quality of the airship markers.

As you can see from the picture, the pieces are badly glued. There’s a lot of excess glue across the bases, and the two on the left are glued upside down – the words should be readable when the pieces are standing. Then there’s the one where the base came apart completely. I’m hoping I can remove some of the glue without destroying the plastic base, but I’m not too optimistic. I’m pretty sure I can fix the broken one at least.

I’m disappointed, but not so much surprised. After all, he said himself his workforce was paid in goldfish.

As I said, I’m a huge fan. I love their music, his book was a fun read, and the art in the RPG is beautiful. But I’m disappointed in the quality of this board game. As a rabid fan, I did spring for the special autographed edition, because I love having signed items of things I adore. But the cost of the NON-collectors edition is comparable to games like Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, and Humans – when the production quality is far worse.

We’ll be playing this game on Saturday; I’ll review gameplay then.

Some are more equal than others

GU Comics has a problem in WoW…

Early yesterday Taks received and email from Blizzard (not one of the bogus phishing ones) that her account had been suspended because of gold selling style activity on one of her characters. I rushed to change her character’s rank in Bloody Plunder so that she didn’t have open access to the guild bank. I then started working on her behalf to reclaim the account. Several hours later she was informed that her account, after investigation, had been banned. There went our carefully planned gaming night.

Long story short, I went to my community contact at Blizzard explained the situation and asked for help. They got everything taken care of this morning and we’ve added an authenticator to Taks’ account.

Y’know, hackers suck and all, and I’m glad the GU guy got it taken care of, but this really kinda pisses me off. If MY WoW account (that I don’t have because it would take over my life and I have homework to do) got hacked like this I’m betting the Blizzard response would be “So sad, too bad”.

The cake is not a lie…

Hi, my name is Jen, and sometimes I post in this ‘blog thingy.

OK, so it’s been a while. Nothing big has been going on, just day to day living; mostly good, some annoyances, a little bad – you know, life. I can’t even say I’ve been too “busy” to post, ’cause I could have easily done so. ;) It’s just plain laziness.

I’m hoping that I overcome said laziness and make an update soon – but don’t hold your breath. You wouldn’t miss much anyway, just my boring days. :D But I like them.

BUT! I’m posting now because it’s my birthday (gratuitous pointing out of entirely too long amazon wishlist) and my husband is made of awesome. For weeks he’s been cackling about this cake that he wanted to have made for me and today I finally got to see (and EAT yay!) the results:

Birthday cake - guess which one?

(Cake by Sweet Tempered)

Yeah, he’s a geek. And I must be a geek too, ’cause I get it, and I think it’s awesomely awesome.

It’s also chocolate, and yummy. Mmmm… cake.

I’m going to go play some Animal Crossing: City Folk now, because I can.

Good News, Bad News

Good News: Got 100 on my government test
Bad News: I don’t feel that good about my AmLit test today.
Good News: At least I wrote something on each question.
Bad News: It may or may not have been related to the question.
Good News: Animal Crossing: City Folk is a lot of fun!
Bad News: Where does the time go???

Animal Crossing: City Folk

Today was the release date for Animal Crossing: City Folk for Nintendo Wii. Naturally I went out and snagged it as soon as possible! It’s pretty much the same as AC:WW, which was pretty much the same as AC gamecube. If you weren’t obsessed with Wild World, I don’t know that City Folk will interest you much. There’s the same visiting towns that WW had, though I have not yet done that yet. You can send mail to other people’s towns without actually having to be in that town at the time, which is nice. You can also send mail through the wii messaging deal as well.

The City is kinda neat! GracieGrace has whoababy expensive stuff – and I could NOT resist the elegant hat which was a beautiful purple…. elegant hat. It was also 6400 bells, which probably should have gone to the Mob my mortgage with Tom Nook. Pooh, I say. I had to have that hat.

Also on display at GracieGrace was the Gorgeous furniture set. It was indeed gorgeous. The bed alone was 300,000 bells, so I’m guessing I’ll have to wait a while for that. ;) I’m also guessing that stock rotates there.

There’s new fish, and I’m guessing new bugs – fall and winter aren’t the best time for bugs. The displays at the museum are really beautiful. Can’t wait to get some paintings to see how the art hall looks. Holidays are back – I’m looking forward to seeing Jingle again!

The ability to take pictures and save to an SD card is pretty keen too.

I did get WiiSpeak, but I haven’t set it up yet. I was in too much of a hurry to get my house and finish Nook’s chores!

Well, that’s enough game babble for now. The cats are done eating, so I’m gonna go see if anyone is online!

Laziness

Today is Saturday. We need to go to Costco, Petsmart, and pick up a prescription at the vet, but seriously, I don’t feel like leaving the house. It’s windy and it makes me feel like the best thing to do is snuggle up under a blanket and play video games.

So, a compromise. :D Today I’m gonna do laundry and study for my American Lit test that’s on Monday, and vegetate as much as possible. Tomorrow, Costco, Petsmart, and GameStop to pick up Animal Crossing City Folk. sqlrob had better get in as much Fallout 3 as he can today, because tomorrow I’ll be hogging the console!

Monday, or maybe Tuesday I’ll be able to pick up Pandora’s meds – it’s a refill, and we’re fine until Wednesday.

There was something else I was going to talk about, but I have no idea what it was. Ah well.

Breakfast! I need breakfast. That’s not what I was going to talk about, but it is, nevertheless, true.

Later!

Amusing moment

The husband is playing Saint’s Row and is driving down the sidewalk mowing down pedestrians like bowling pins.

It’s… slightly disturbing. :D
