I can&apos;t believe I almost missed it!  I&apos;d forgotten that it was Wednesday until Rob called and asked if I was on my way.  Margaret Atwood was warm and funny with a very dry sense of humor.  I enjoyed it immensely.  I was able to get both books, <i><a HREF=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/038549081X\/robandjenspla-20\">The Handmaid&apos;s Tale<\/a><\/i> and <i>Oryx &#038; Crake<\/i> autographed.<\/p>\n<p>I was amused (and not surprised) by the very first question:  &#8220;Taking into account the current state of world events, do you believe <i>The Handmaid&apos;s Tale<\/i> could happen?&#8221;  Atwood said that she did not subscribe to the theory &#8220;It can&apos;t happen here&#8221; and that nothing in her novels had not taken place in the past, or was not possible given current technology.  She also said that a lot of the Handmaid&apos;s Tale was based on US history.<\/p>\n<p>Another question was &#8220;Why do you write about bad relationships between mothers and daughters?&#8221;  Atwood&apos;s response:  &#8220;Why do you enjoy reading about them?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She&apos;s a very cool lady.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.robandjen.com\/images\/remote\/atwood.jpg\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last night was the book signing for Oryx &#038; Crake by Margaret Atwood.
