Had a good, lazy weekend. We went to the dog park yesterday to let Jake run around like a fool. I managed to trip over a rock and fall on the way in though. :-/ I hate falling – it's embarassing. At least this time I didn't get hurt much. My elbow is scraped and pretty sore, and today my upper arm is sore, but that's about it. Other than that, the dog park was pretty fun. I didn't get very many pictures, but they're here if you wanna see. The kitten was being a little shit last night. He's…

Thought for the evening.
“I have examined all the known superstitions of the word, and I do not find in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology. Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this coercion? To make one half of the world fools and the other half hypocrites; to support roguery and error all over the earth.” – Thomas Jefferson In other news: MS Windows update broke my 2K laptop. So, I'm attempting an XP…

Words, words, words…
Currently in my reading pile are the following books: The Return of the King – J.R.R Tolkien Kate Remembered – A. Scott Berg Uppity Women of Medieval Times – Vicki Leon The Ultimate Dragon – various sci-fi/fantasy authors The Silmarillion – J.R.R. Tolkien I don't know if I'm really going to make it through that last. I'd never managed to read any Tolkien until FOTR came out. I'd tried the Hobbit before, but never got through it. Since the movies came out, I've read Fellowship, Two Towers, and the Hobbit. I only got halfway through ROTK before, so now I'm…

Sliding, sliding, sliding….
One FBI internal newsletter encouraged FBI agents to conduct more interviews with antiwar activists “for plenty of reasons, chief of which it will enhance the paranoia endemic in such circles and will further service to get the point across that there is an FBI agent behind every mailbox.” The FBI took a shotgun approach toward protesters partly because of the FBI's “belief that dissident speech and association should be prevented because they were incipient steps toward the possible ultimate commission of act which might be criminal,” according to a Senate report. Jefferson must be getting dizzy. “A Bill of Rights…

Day 149 – Passed the holidays!
So I wonder when I'll get tired of keeping track of the days. It's not like this way of eating is going to be temporary. LOL OK – Weigh in time: Last week: 265.6 lbs This week: 263.0 lbs Loss this week: 2.6 lbs Total loss: 28.8 lbs Loss rate: 1.35 lbs/week To do this week: Journal more consistantly. Drink. The. Damn. Water. And it wouldn't kill me to eat a vegetable or two. I think.

Stuff
loves the bread maker. :) We've made 4 loaves so far, 2 from mixes, 2 from recipes. The ones from recipes turned out by far the best. I joined the community. I'm sure I read more than fifty books in a year, but this will challenge me to keep count and hopefully to broaden my reading horizons a bit. Might be fun to see just how much I do read. Right now, I have a very short attention span. I think I have about six books started – which means I'm not really reading any of them. It's annoying. Anyway,…

Article: What You Can't Say
What You Can't Say – Heresy: how to think forbidden thoughts, and what to do with them. To see fashion in your own time, though, requires a conscious effort. Without time to give you distance, you have to create distance yourself. Instead of being part of the mob, stand as far away from it as you can and watch what it's doing. And pay especially close attention whenever an idea is being suppressed. Web filters for children and employees often ban sites containing pornography, violence, and hate speech. What counts as pornography and violence? And what, exactly, is “hate speech?”…
