The players:
Mai-Lyn: Cat, 14 years old, Siamese, Seal Point, female
Pandora: Cat, 9 years old, DSH, Tuxedo (black & white), female
Max: Cat, about 3 months old, DSH, Tabby, male
Jake: Dog, 3 years old, Australian Cattledog Mix, Grey Merle, male
Well, the kitten is settling in well. Mai-Lyn still growls and hisses, but I witnessed one nose-touching incident. Pan is ok up to a point, then starts snorting and growling. Neither are very appreciative when Max chases them.
The dog is beside himself. There's a cat that doesn't hate him, that will rub up against him and purr. Then he gets over excited and scares Max into full hissy puffyness. Of course, this has emboldened Jake because now he's trying again to play with Mai-Lyn and Pandora. He has a chance with Pan, but it'll take a while yet.
Funny dog: Rob and I were in tears laughing so hard. I only wish I could have gotten a picture, but it was too fast.
We had been playing with Max with the kitty teaser toy – it's a stick with a string, and you can attach various toys on the end; feathers, tassles, etc. The dog was getting jazzed up and HE started trying to catch the feather. That was funny enough, but then I got my idea….
“Here Jake!! Get the stick! Take it!!” ::: hands kitty teaser stick to the dog ::: “Go!! Go!!”
The dog proceeds to grab the stick, run out of the bedroom and down the stairs, with the kitten hot on his heels. Rob and I fall into paroxysms of laughter.
So. I have a dog that likes to play with kitty toys. Oh, and he likes catnip. Should I get him into a 12 step program? For his own good, you know.
Here's a gratuitous picture of a naked dog – we got him a summer clip. I'm thinking we need to do that every six months or so!
