Life is what happens between blog posts

Whups, it's been a while. It's just been my plain 'ol boring life, but gosh it takes up time.

I'm up to 32 books so far this year – I really need to update the List. I'm slow on books this year for several reasons: Work, for one – it's funny how you get behind on reading if you have an actual job. Also, I've been slobbering over the powerbook, and spending more time playing console games. But reading is still a priority, it's just a little slower.

But one reason I haven't updated is that I'm still learning to live with my powerbook. I adore it, but it is a big change from Windows, and I haven't quite developed a relationship with the apps I need. But I think I've got a good text editor now that will let me do HTML code easily – for some reason, TextEdit wouldn't save it properly as an html file. I don't know if it was me or it that was screwing it up. Anyhow, I've got TextWrangler now, and I think that'll work for me.

I gave in last week and picked up a Nintendo DS and Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Yes, I know that's not a DS game, but I don't care. I got the DS to play that, but also because Animal Crossing is coming out for the DS eventually and I'll probably have to get it, because I'm obsessed. CoM is really good though! I wasn't positive I'd like it, with the card style fighting system, but it's really not bad. And though it does follow pretty much the same storyline as KH it is introducing a pretty neat twist. Plus, I got it used for a decent price so I'm happy.

Another reason I got the DS is that the GBA SP is really small. I was never really comfortable playing it. The DS fits better and the screen back light is really good. It's also nice to both be able to play handheld games when we want to.

I still love my job. I'm exceedingly grateful that I can take this job without having to worry about the pay being not so good. While I could make almost twice as much as I'm making now, I'm so thankful that I don't have to. I hate tech support and network adminning so much it makes me sick to think about having to go back to either. I have to admit that the idea of me being an “intern” at my age is a little disconcerting, but eh, whatever. The job is fun and interesting, though if I described what I do it probably wouldn't sound either fun or interesting. I do enjoy it though. Plus, I get to work with ! This also allows us to easily get along with one car.

I picked up the coolest book the other day – The Complete War of the Worlds. It came with a CD of the original 1938 broadcast, along with interviews of Orson Welles and H.G Wells. The book has the WotW novel and screenplay, reactions to the original, bios of H.G and Orson, etc., etc. It is really good and I'm so glad I spotted it at Costco. I've loved War of the Worlds since I was a kid, and I've got a worn out tape recording of the broadcast so I was delighted to get it on CD now. I've got a soft spot for old radio programs – one of my early good memories of my dad is listening to the Shadow on the radio with him. No, I'm not that old; in the late 70's they played reruns of the classics.

The last 4 nights coming out of work there's been this cute little bright green lizard sunning himself on the walls of the walkway. He is so cute and I want to catch him but he's a fast little booger and I haven't managed it yet. I thought I almost had him last time, but where I thought I had him trapped there was actually a gap behind him I didn't know about. Ah well. Maybe next time. Or maybe not, the chances of me actually catching this lil' guy are slim to none. Why yes, I am 38 years old and trying to catch a lizard – you gots a problem with that?!? :)

Besides the usual laundry and dishes, a major project on my list right now is cleaning out and reorganizing the pantry. I've got three shelves done so far. If we get home “early” anytime this week (before 7:30) I'll work on it, otherwise it's going to have to wait until Saturday. The “pet shelf” and the spice shelf are the major problems – all this little crap that needs to be neatened up. Speaking of spices, I'm looking for a decent storage/use system for 'em. The spice rack thing we've got really isn't very good. The jars don't seal well, and even if they did the shakerplasticthingy on each jar doesn't attach very securely. Or work well, for that matter.

Major projects that need to be done that we're procrastinating and/or dithering over:

1 – Roof needs to be looked at and probably some work done.
2 – House needs painting.
3 – Back fence really needs to be replaced; the rest of the fence could use replacing as well
4 – Kitchen floor at a minimum needs a patch in one spot; but really needs to be replaced with real tile.
5 – Front room carpet needs to be ripped out and replaced with wood flooring or acid stained concrete

6 – Heck, ALL the carpet needs to be ripped out and replaced with tile or wood.
7 – Inside of the house could use painting too. This is assuming we can agree on colors. :) We have not yet (after 4 years of marriage) been able to agree on a set of everyday dishes. I'm surprised we managed to agree on the silverware and glasses.

Well, that's enough rambling for one night. I have been mostly sorta keeping up with you guys even if I haven't been saying much. Again.

Oh! Before I stumble off to bed (I'll be stumbling because the dog and/or cat is bound to get in my way) I must mention the creator of my super-cool-neato-adorably-cute user icon! Many thanks to the talented !

'Night all. I'll leave you with the Visited States Meme… again, but it's fun.
