Bizarre question…

Does anyone listening know how long personal checks are good for? Will the bank refuse them after a certain amount of time?

  1. I think they’re good forever. Some business checks I get put a deadline on them.

  2. I think the bank that it’s drawn on decides when the check becomes stale. Usually 6 months, sometimes 3. Call ’em and ask.

  3. I worked in banking hell for 6 1/2 years as a teller. For checks that don’t have a sooner date, it’s six months. Otherwise, if it’s like a payroll or rebate check that says “void in 30/60/90 days”, then it’s the sooner date. Some banks will contact the person who owns the account and ask them if it’s okay to cash the check after the 6 months, though. As another poster before me suggested–call the bank.;)
