I finally picked up the rest of the “Prey” books that I was missing, so I read them straight through. Good fun, well drawn characters.
068. Rachel & Leah – Card, Orson Scott
Say what you will about the man, but Card writes really good novels. His religious fiction is not preachy at all, and brings the old tales to life. I'm not religious at all, and enjoyed his “Women of Genesis” series immensely. For Christmas, I gave a copy of all three to my mother-in-law (who is a religious person) and she loved them as well.
069. Wicked: The Life & Times of the Wicked Witch of the West – Maguire, Gregory
What a fun book! This was a wonderful twist on an old classic. I think I'm going to try some of his other books as well. Of course, reading this one prompted me to read the original.
070. The Wizard of Oz – Baum, Frank L.
After reading “Wicked”, reading the original was surreal. Especially because I don't think I ever did read this as a child, but of course I've seen the classic with Judy Garland a bazillion times. It was very cool to get back to the roots of this American fairy tale.
071. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe – Flagg, Fannie
I saw the movie ages ago, and enjoyed it. Reading the book was even better. Very well written, it brought the time alive for me.

This year I’m going to try to write more “reviews”, post every 5 books or so, and maybe keep track of start/finish times. Heh. We’ll see.

That looks like an interesting community. Although, 50 books in a year hardly seems like much of a challenge. Why, that’s not even one a week! I probably average at least 2 per week.
This year, my goal for books is to try to expand my reading a bit more beyond my usual science fiction / fantasy fare.
Yeah, I usually read more than that too. A lot of the people there make their own goals – 100, whatever. There’s a community somewhere that measures page count too, heheh.
Your goal is mine as well – I love scifi & fantasy, and I tend to re-read books frequently. Gots to expand that!
