What issues are you having with Gallery? I use that for my photo album too. I will probably be of no help, but at least I can try.
I think I’ve got it sorted out now. It had to do with the url rewrite thing (I think) but it seems to be working. Now I’m just trying to make it look… reasonable. I want to get it mostly hammered out before I start uploading like mad. :)
