Unexpected

I got to school on Monday and found out that my History teacher died over spring break. She’d had some upper respiratory crud going on the week prior, and apparently it turned into pneumonia and it killed her.

The disturbing part, besides someone I know however superficially dying without warning, is that she was just 42.

For those of you keeping score, I’m 41. I also, if I get sick, tend to get a horrendous cough that hangs on for weeks.

So yeah, it’s a little disconcerting.

  1. That IS scary. I hate being reminded of my own mortality. Mortality sucks.
I also get the lingering, hacking cough every time I get sick. I’ll have a simple cold for three days, and then I sound like I have TB for a month after. :\

  2. I am sure that freaks you out just as much as it would freak me out. Hell – just reading about people dying near our age freaks me out.
A few years ago, I realized I got sick twice a year: Spring and Fall. It finally dawned on me I had allergies. The last time I came down with something relatively nasty was December 2006. I had just found out about the type 2 diabetes and had a hell of a time locating some OTC stuff. I had to take a class that week. The first day, I was in the worst shape possible. Runny nose and hacking cough. I finally said “fuck it” and took a Claritin that afternoon. Within about 20 minutes, I was doing 100% better. By mid-week, there was no more signs I had been ill.
The sad part is that I bet your history teacher did not want to go to the doctor due to insurance concerns.
*hug* Sorry to hear about all of this.
