Brain Dump

Not much has been going on lately, just day to day living. But, there are things I've thought about posting that I never got around to actually talking about. Let's see if I can remember.

There's a radio station in Austin called BobFM. Aside from the fact that it insults our intelligence by insisting that some guy named Bob bought the radio station (a perfectly good Oldies station, I might add) in order to “Play Anything”, I find that I really do like this station. They don't quite “play anything”, but they do come close.

Anyway, the other day I was listening to the radio while driving home from dropping off at work. I can't help but get a kick out of a station that goes from Liz Phair (Why Can't I), to Kansas (Dust in the Wind), to the BeeGees (Stayin' Alive), to Twisted Sister (We're Not Gonna Take It).

Still, I wish that “Bob” had bought a different station. I miss the Oldies station that used to be at 103.5.

I found a fun OSX site! Check out http://osx.iusethis.com/user/jenbooks – this is my page and it shows apps that I use. It's a good way to find that useful or nifty app you've been looking for.

Which brings me to Journler – I'm using it to type this entry. It seems pretty powerful, and it claims to be able to post to several different blogging sites, including LiveJournal. We'll see how it goes when I post this. I've been using xJournal, which has worked pretty well for me, although recently it lost the ability to detect music properly. I'm not sure why.

I also found an app that exports your Delicious Library to a web page. I just had to try it – the results are here. Warning: the page is a complete beast and will take forever to load. Especially if you go to movies. I'm not completely thrilled with it, though it is pretty nifty. All I really wanted was a text list, anyway. I may have to roll my own, which could be painful. Plus, I'd like the lists in my Palm – I can never remember if I've picked up a DVD and actually bought it, or if I just picked it up and thought about buying it. To do this, I have to really kludge it up: (OSX) DeliciousLibrary -> export to csv -> import to NeoOffice -> clean the file up -> save as Excel -> (Win98se) open in Excel -> export to SmartList To Go -> sync Palm on 98 -> sync Palm on OSX. Man, there's got to be a better way.

I'd been saving up leftover allowance for a while for a new shiny, and yesterday was the day I decided to get it. We stopped at Petsmart before going to the Shiny Store (CompUSA in this case) and I was extremely proud of myself for not leaving said Petsmart with a cute little dwarf hamster and all it's paraphernalia. Three cats and a dog are more than enough pets for us, and truly, I only think I want a cute little rodent for the Kodak moments. I'll just have to squee over pictures of friends rats and stuff.

Anyway, the shiny I was after was an iSight web cam, which was duly purchased. I'm sure I'll get some use out of it as a web cam, but the main reason I got it was to (hopefully) speed up the book catalog. Hmm. Maybe I'll set up a window cam and let ya'll spy on the cats. Or maybe not. LOL

In DS news, I finally got the skin and case I wanted for it:

Guess that's it for now. Let's see how Journler (yes, that's how it's spelled o_O) manages to post to LJ.

    1. It’s so annoying when they say “Bob did (such and such) at (some Austin hangout)” – I yell at the radio Bob doesn’t exist, dammit!!
All I expect from radio these days is mainstream. I rely on friends and LJ to find stuff I wouldn’t normally hear. :)

  1. I Use This is cool! Thanks for passing that link on. I guess I know what I’ll be doing this weekend … seeing what cool things I have to have for my Mac. :D
I wandered too close to a PetsMart today and got sucked in the door. After hovering over an adorable kitten for entirely too long, I ended up in the rodent area myself. I’m really wanting some sort of fuzzy critter in the house again, but I am not ready for another cat-friend yet. I was thinking about a hamster. I’ve had them before, and they ARE adorable. Also as much as I loved spoiling my little hamster buddies, there wasn’t that level of emotional attachment I get with cats. I felt sad when they passed away, but it didn’t destroy me. Cute? Yes. Best friends? Not from a hamster, at least not for me. They do tend to provide some delightful Kodak moments though. LOL! Might make a good “rebound” pet for our household.
I miss the oldies station too, but Bob isn’t too bad. I guess I am adapting, though sometimes it gives me serious flashbacks to my wayward youth. :D
You do realize your DS and it’s accessories are so kawaii you are almost forcing me to want one don’t you? Maybe the next time I have some mad money stacked up I’ll have to jump on the portable gaming bandwagon.

Oh yes. Come to the dark side! I (heart) my DS so much. And I’m completely addicted to Animal Crossing:Wild World, hence the skin and bag. o_O I had to import both of those, y’know. The acww skin available in the states isn’t nearly as cute.

  2. *thumbs up* to all the Animal Crossing goodness you got there. Hopefully once Ganon’s born I won’t still gag at the thought of playing it on the DS; I have lots of people to visit. Right now even hearing the AC music gives me a ripping headache by default.
Hmm. I use xJournal too, and lately it’s been doing a VERY strange thing for me: I log in and post one entry, and then it does this weird “half-log-out” thing where I have to log back in if I want to post to anything other than my personal LJ (like a community to which I have access) in public mode. If I want to do a friends’ only or a community post, I have to close the program & reopen. If I try to do an Apple+L login, it crashes on me.
Needless to say I’m checking out Journaler right now.

  3. I love the case and skin for your DS! That rocks. You have any games that work wirelessy? I have tetris and mariokart. If you have either of those, maybe we can play.
Also, thanks for the list of os x apps. i downloaded the coconut programs.

    1. We don’t have Tetris yet, but it is on the list of games we want to try. So far, ACWW is the only one I’ve got that has online capabilities.
I’ll let ya know when I’ve got Tetris!
