Linucon – day one…

Wow.

Just… wow.

I am completely geeking out and it's just so cool!

It's 12:30 am right now – I may or may not be able to post this because the wireless network here isn't working at the moment. It's probably overloaded. When I first got here it was great though, so hopefully I'll be able to post this before leaving Linucon.

Geeks. Scifi geeks. Anime geeks. Linux geeks. Science geeks. Cute geek guys. Hot geek chyks. Not so cute and hot geek guys and chyks. The knowing looks and smiles from people you know are just as weird and smart and quirky as you.

So far:

– listened to a discussion of anime; styles, types, directions, influences.

– have tasted three kinds of ice cream made with liquid nitrogen. And pocky!

– watched Wil Wheaton spank Steve Jackson and Eric Raymond in a game of Munchkin.

– spent an hour in the con suite listening to a bull session covering music styles, excavating ruins, Mars exploration and the possibility of life on Europa with fellow con attendees – and a couple of real-life rocket scientists.

– listened to a guy talk about fun with state and federal government and the FOIA.

– watched crack up Wil Wheaton and an entire room with a single word. (The word was “edgy”. You probably had to be there.)

– discovered that Wil Wheaton really is an incredibly nice guy and funny as hell. If you don't read his blog, you should. I've been reading it off and on for a while now and I'd have to say he's one of my favorite bloggers.

– spent a lot of money on t-shirts and plushy elder gods.

There's 24 hour anime going on, as well as a 24 hour game room. I think I'll get some sleep though. Tomorrow, I must find some of the caffeinated water that I've heard so much about – I could probably use it!
