Books, books, and more books…

Insert usual dismay at posting procrastination

097. I Should Have Seen It Coming When the Rabbit Died – Teresa Bloomingdale (09/13/2004)

This is one of many we picked up at a library book sale. I'd read this book an eon ago when I was a kid, and it's still as funny as it was. It was a little annoying though, with the author's smug assumption that people without children can't possibly really be happy.

098. Red Dragon – Thomas Harris (09/15/2004)
099. Silence of the Lambs – Thomas Harris (09/18/2004)

Basically these are serial-killer thrillers. I love these, and I'd just as soon not know why. Red Dragon was good, though a little disappointing. I thought it would be more about Dr. Lecter, but he was only a side character. Silence of the Lambs was great – I had actually never read it, or seen the movie. I read Hannibal earlier this year, and I liked it quite a bit. Dr. Lecter is really a fascinating and likeable man, aside from the whole killing and eating people thing. Still, we all have our faults.

100. The Cat Who Knew a Cardinal – Lillian Jackson Braun (09/20/2004)
101. The Cat Who Went Underground – Lillian Jackson Braun (09/20/2004)
102. D Is for Deadbeat (Kinsey Millhone Mysteries) – Sue Grafton (09/21/2004)
103. Certain Prey – John Sandford (09/22/2004)
104. Hidden Prey – John Sandford (09/24/2004)
105. Prey – Michael Crichton (09/26/2004)

Man plays god again and releases nanobots that learn and evolve.

106. Heroics For Beginners – John Moore (09/27/2004)

Funny fantasy hero book. I “heard” the entire book in Princess Bride voices.

107. Dirty Dozen – E. M. Nathanson (10/02/2004)

Fantastic WW2 novel – take a bunch of death-row prisoners and make them into a fighting force. Whose side will they be on?

108. Dancing Barefoot – Wil Wheaton (10/10/2004)
109. Cat's Eye – Margaret Atwood (10/13/2004)

Another great read by Margaret Atwood. She's rapidly climbing my list of favorite authors.

110. Starship Troopers – Robert Heinlein (10/17/2004)

This is one of my favorite Heinlein books. I read it this time because I was loaning it to a co-worker who had just seen the movie and hadn't read the book. This also prompted me to rent the movie again – it's still horrible. I was able to enjoy it a little more this time as a mindless sci-fi flick, but it definitely is not Heinlein's vision. Though, judging from the trailers, I think that I, Robot is going to take ST's place as Worst Movie Adaptation Ever.

111. Just a Geek – Wil Wheaton (10/18/2004)

Wil Wheaton is an incredibly nice guy and funny as hell. If you don't read his blog, you should. I've been reading it off and on for a while now and I'd have to say he's one of my favorite bloggers.

112. The Last Juror – John Grisham (10/24/2004)

A bit different for Grisham, the protagonist is not a lawyer. Good read, unexpected ending.
