testing

Just a test post from the new palm. I think I'll call her Athena.

Graffiti 2 is a LOT different!

Book 1 – The Warlord of Mars

And on to the 2005 Fifty-Book challenge!

This year, I resolve to not let more than 5 books go by without posting, and I'm going to try harder to write better reviews. Or something. Also, I'm not going to count anything I read last year – I'm not going to eliminate re-reads, but I'm going to try not to read anything I read last year. Except for Harry Potter. Gotta re-read those when Half-Prince comes out! Anyway, here is the very first book I've read in 2005!

001. The Warlord of Mars – Edgar Rice Burroughs (01/02) – Sci-fi/fantasy. Dated, yes. Quaint, sure. But it's still great action and a fun read.

Upset the politically correct – read banned books.

Out with the old, in with the new!

Well. I didn't quite make it to 125 books – I spent too much time playing with my new Palm. Click here for the last of my 2004 list!

113. Pyramid Scheme – Dave Freer & Eric Flint (10/26/2004)

Oh, this was funny. You've got an alien artifact abducting people and throwing them into a jumbled up ancient mythological world.

114. Digital Fortress – Dan Brown (10/31/2004)

This book was pretty good. At first I was afraid I'd be rooting for the bad guys in this one, but it all worked out all right.

115. H is for Homicide – Sue Grafton (11/05/2004)

Another of Grafton's alphabet mysteries – always good brain candy

116. Disclosure – Michael Crichton (11/19/2004)

A little different from Crighton's usual, but I enjoyed it.

117. The Worst Day of My Life, So Far – M.A. Harper (11/27/2004)

Hmm. I can't say I liked this book, but I can't say I didn't either. It's a woman coming to terms with caring for her mother who has Alzheimer's. She seemed highly passive-aggressive and self-martyred which got a little wearing. Still, it was worth reading.

118. Skipping Christmas – John Grisham (12/01/2004)

This book had been on my “want to read” list long before the movie came out. I was disappointed actually – and if I lived in their neighborhood I'd probably be on the rooftop with a sniper rifle. Still, it had some pretty funny moments.

119. Good Faith – Jane Smiley (12/18/2004)

I liked this one – it's about real estate in the 80's, before the crash.

120. The Lottery Winner – Mary Higgins Clark (12/24/2004)

A bit different from most of her stuff, this is short mysteries with the same sleuth. I'd compare it to the Pollifax mysteries.

121. Easy Prey – John Sandford (12/26/2004)

I really enjoy Sanford's Prey series. You don't really have to read them in order, but if you do there's a rich backstory around the protagonist. If not, the serial killer mysteries are good on their own.

122. The Price of the Stars – Debra Doyle and James D. MacDonald (12/30/2004)

Just your basic sci-fi, and yet again book one in a series. This is the one that kept me from hitting 125 books – I should've put it down and whipped through my Barsoom books. :)

123. A Princess of Mars – Edgar Rice Burroughs (12/31/2004)
124. The Gods of Mars – Edgar Rice Burroughs (12/31/2004)

Classic sci-fi/fantasy – this is the real stuff that inspired many authors. It's also a must read if you're a Heinlein fan that wants to get the most out of Number of the Beast.
