Eep.

The heavens opened up this afternoon and dumped much needed rain in Austin. Of course, drivers here are idiots under the best of conditions.

We decided to stay at work until at least 6:30, then see if traffic looked ok. It did, so we left. A half mile or so from the office, we're at a light and I'm looking ahead at the wet road, and many many red tail lights, and the rain still coming down a bit, and I'm feeling uneasy.

My wreck in Dallas was over a year ago – and I still get the willies in the rain.

So I'm feeling a little anxiety and I ask if he'd mind if we just stopped at Chili's (on that corner), had dinner, and waited a while. A yummy dinner (mmmm ribs) and bit over an hour later we head out again. Sun's out, it's not raining, road's starting to dry out – and a few miles down the road traffic is way backed up. We see that another mile or so down, the traffic light is flashing red – joy. Oh well, it's slow, but no one is being too stupid.

It takes forever though, and then an ambulance comes through – and two firetrucks come through the other way. We funnel onto the shoulder and creep by – there's a minivan slaunchwise across the lanes – on its roof.

Eep.

We could've been near that. We could've been in that. Time for another anxiety attack.

On a lighter note – this video is extremely funny. Put down the beverage and click away – I laughed myself sick. :) Warning: It is totally not safe for work or rugrats.

  1. *hugs*. After two accidents that brought all of my other anxiety issues screaming out, I wasn’t able to drive without panic attacks for nearly a year. I still don’t like doing it, but I do it anyway. Therapy and drugs man, I’m telling you.
Which is not to say I’m EVER driving in the snow again if I don’t absolutely have to. That’s what the bus is for. Yay public transportation.
