    Books, books, and more books…

Insert usual dismay at posting procrastination 097. I Should Have Seen It Coming When the Rabbit Died – Teresa Bloomingdale (09/13/2004) This is one of many we picked up at a library book sale. I'd read this book an eon ago when I was a kid, and it's still as funny as it was. It was a little annoying though, with the author's smug assumption that people without children can't possibly really be happy. 098. Red Dragon – Thomas Harris (09/15/2004) 099. Silence of the Lambs – Thomas Harris (09/18/2004) Basically these are serial-killer thrillers. I love these, and I'd…

    Oooh, shiny!

I've been dithering about getting an mp3 player for the longest time, and since I actually got a paycheck I decided to take the plunge. This little baby is now mine, all mine! Ohhh it's so sweet. It's got fabulous sound, 256MB, an FM tuner with presets, it's got a voice recorder, and I can record off the radio or plug it into a tape deck. Right now it's stuffed to the gills with five and a half albums worth of music. It is super neato cool, and the reason I chose this one is that, besides the fact that…

Ok. Posts need to be made. Don't say I didn't warn you.

First off, fluff. This interest meme going around is definitely one of the better ones. It’s interesting that “cats” are universal, where “dogs” are merely popular. Had to.

Which File Extension are You? That was a fun quiz – lots of cool results. Coming soon, I swear: More on Linucon. Updates on the Job. Other random nonsense. Speaking of random nonsense, apparently I signed up for NaNoWriMo this year. I'll be as stunned as anyone if I actually do it – I haven't the slightest idea of what to write, just a vague memory of enjoying writing. I've got the rest of the month to figure it out.

    Back

We're back from Linucon. Wow. This was such a fantastic weekend and I'm really sad that it's over. This short entry is all I can manage right now, but there will be a full report soon. Probably tomorrow night. I will say that playing in a poker tournament with Wil Wheaton was a hell of a lot of fun. I didn't make it to the final table, but I hung on a lot longer than I expected to! I also can say that caffeinated water is an experience.

    Linucon – day one…

Wow. Just… wow. I am completely geeking out and it's just so cool! It's 12:30 am right now – I may or may not be able to post this because the wireless network here isn't working at the moment. It's probably overloaded. When I first got here it was great though, so hopefully I'll be able to post this before leaving Linucon. Geeks. Scifi geeks. Anime geeks. Linux geeks. Science geeks. Cute geek guys. Hot geek chyks. Not so cute and hot geek guys and chyks. The knowing looks and smiles from people you know are just as weird and…

    I'm still alive

Wow, we’ve just been really busy lately! The new job at one week in is actually pretty dang cool. The brain is actually being used, and it’s even kinda fun. Did I mention it’s not tech support? Monday night we went to a book signing at Bookpeople – Neal Stephenson. He’s such a fascinating person! Next up on my book list, once I get through the current stack, is going to be his Baroque Cycle. This weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) is Linucon!! We’ve plotted out the panel/seminar thingies we’re going to, and I really can’t wait. It should be…
