Doggy stuff

So Jake does something that seems to show some serious brains in that fuzzy doggy head. There's a long, narrow window right next to our front door. Jake will lie on the tile and look out the window. (That's not the smart part.) Now, if you go in our front door, there's a staircase a few feet and to the left. To get to our bedroom, you'd go upstairs, then left again down a very short hallway. In the bedroom is a huge floor to ceiling window, facing the same way as the front door. We leave the blinds partway up usually, mainly for the cats.

Back to the dog: So he'll see something outside through the front narrow window (which isn't covered, damn it) and he'll race upstairs to look out the big window in the bedroom.

To me, that seems to show a sophisticated spatial awareness. He's figured out that the view from downstairs next to the door is equal to the view from the window upstairs – or would most dogs do this?
